Spectacular Contemporary Renovation in Washington, D.C.

Homeowner Challenge:

Structural challenges were the hallmark of this remodeling project in Washington, DC. The renovation of this home, located on top of a hill with limited access, required the installation of a new foundation and numerous additional changes to support new materials and meet current codes. During construction, much of the demolition and materials had to be carried up and down by hand.

The BOWA Solution:

The homeowners retained BOWA to transform their new home’s formal, traditional spaces into an open, contemporary floor plan with improved flow for living and entertaining. By eliminating walls and an under-utilized staircase, lines of site were improved throughout the main level of the home. Thoughtful design and superb craftsmanship resulted in a spectacular home that is updated and modern yet warm and inviting.

Project Highlights:

  • Magnificent 3-sided stone fireplace divides casual sitting area from formal living room and serves as focal point
  • Custom built-in media cabinets fabricated and modified on site to cover fireplace flue
  • Renovated foyer includes marble floor with custom medallion and crystal chandelier
  • Kitchen renovation included removal of walls to open up space and visually connect adjoining breakfast room while installation of large, multi-purpose island adds counter and casual eating space
