Kitchen Renovation for a Chef in Vienna, VA

Homeowner Challenge:

This 1975 split-level house was dark, cramped and the floor plan did not allow the owners to easily entertain guests. The sunken living room off the kitchen created a tripping hazard and obstructed the flow of the space. The homeowners knew the small, dated kitchen and awkward layout of the main level would require renovation to suit their family’s needs.

The BOWA Solution:

BOWA in-house designers went to work to bring this 1970s home into the 21st century. The BOWA team started by relocating the original “magic triangle” kitchen to the back of the house and expanding into the existing screened in porch. This move allowed for more countertop space, cabinetry and storage in the new, open-concept kitchen. To allow more natural light to flow throughout the main level, custom skylights were added over the new kitchen island. BOWA also leveled the adjacent sunken living room and installed new hardwood floors to create uniformity. The dining room was relocated to the location of the original kitchen, and benefits from the installation of a large bay window that also allows more natural light. The homeowners, a trained chef and her husband, now have a light-filled, open floor plan that allows them to more easily entertain guests, prepare beautiful meals, and enjoy their time together.
