BOWA Builders’ Green Building and Remodeling Expert Among First to Achieve New LEED AP Homes Credential

Doug Horgan Builds Resume as Washington, D.C. Green-Building Authority

McLean, Va. — BOWA Builders (www.bowa.com), a full-service residential construction firm specializing in upscale additions, renovations and custom homes, congratulates Vice President of Best Practices Doug Horgan on being among the first residential building professionals nationwide to acquire the new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) AP Homes credential.

Grounded in the pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement, the certification is part of a multi-faceted credentialing system from the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). This system ensures LEED professionals are current with the latest knowledge and understanding in a specialty area—in this case residential green building practices.

With more than 20 years of experience in residential remodeling, Horgan is recognized as one of the area’s foremost authorities on green remodeling and construction quality. In addition to his new LEED AP Homes certification, he was the first person in the Washington area to achieve the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Certified Green Professional designation and is an NAHB Certified Graduate Remodeler. A member of the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects’ Committee on the Environment (COTEdc), Horgan also holds certifications from the Building Performance Institute and is a National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Green Certified Professional. Additionally, as a testament to his recognized expertise in this area, Horgan was an instructor for the NARI Green Remodeling class.

As a result of his training, experience and involvement, Horgan has been invited by several industry groups, architectural firms and communities to speak on various aspects of green building and construction quality. He applies this knowledge to his role as BOWA’s vice president of best practices, where he champions the company’s standard of excellence through research and development, training and quality control programs.
