“Cook’s Kitchen” Renovation in Potomac, Maryland

Homeowner Challenge:

This Potomac, Maryland kitchen was dark, awkward to work in and didn’t lend itself to meal preparation or the cooking classes the homeowner frequently conducted. The homeowners disliked their kitchen, because it was dark, access was awkward, and it didn’t suit their love of cooking or the cooking classes she conducts.

The BOWA Solution:

The BOWA design build team re-configured the existing entry hall, opening it up with a graceful archway and improving the home’s front-to-rear line of sight view.  The breakfast room was better incorporated into the kitchen by running cabinetry and countertops the length of the wall to connect the two rooms, which also provided additional storage and work space.  Now more conducive to hosting cooking lessons, the new kitchen space is stunning yet practical enough for everyday enjoyment.

Project Highlights:

  • Dual island design features contrasting cabinet finishes, second tier on one island and rounded dining area on the other
  • Matching granite countertops provide continuity across the various work areas and complement the cabinetry and custom tile backsplash
  • High-end appliance package features Wolf range, ovens and under-counter microwave as well as Sub-Zero refrigerator, freezer and wine cooler
  • This project won Best Design and Architecture – Renovations or Additions under $500,000 in the Great American Living Awards.
