Custom Home – American Vernacular in Arlington, Virginia
Homeowner Challenge:
The homeowner’s goal for this custom home project was to combine quality materials, accessibility for their daughter who has disabilities, and warmth. In addition to their desire to combine elements from homes in which they had lived throughout the United States and abroad, the new spaces needed to be well appointed for frequent entertaining.
The BOWA Solution:
The design fully integrates the principles of Universal Design and Aging in Place concepts without visitors realizing what they are, meeting current and anticipated needs. As seen in the magnificent staircase and elsewhere, one of the highlights of this project is the use of custom wood and handcrafted finishes to create an elegant, yet welcoming home.
Project Highlights:
- Custom woodwork featuring cherry, elm, oak and hickory
- Universal Design features throughout
- Gracious wrap-around porch
- Pool and pool house with integrated outdoor living room and fireplace
