Indoor Pool and Great Room Addition in Potomac, MD

Homeowner Challenge:

These long-time BOWA clients wanted an indoor pool for their family’s enjoyment, and needed a space appropriate for entertaining large groups for charitable and school functions. Accessibility to the pool was a concern, as the homeowners worried that if it was located on the basement level it wouldn’t be used as much.

The BOWA Solution:

The solution was a carefully designed main-level indoor pool and great room addition, inspired by some of the clients’ favorite vacation spots. Having recently completed a number of other timber-frame structures, BOWA recommended that the timber-frame clear-span methodology would be ideal for achieving the wide-open design the clients were seeking. Warm timber beams and beautiful stone walls create a flow and consistency throughout the entire addition and help to achieve the desired vacation feel. A beautiful outdoor patio, accessed via fully opening perimeter doors and featuring a fire pit and multiple seating areas, extends the entertaining area.

Project Highlights:

  • The timber-frame clear-span methodology was ideal for achieving the wide-open, wooden design.
  • Dedicated dehumidification and HVAC systems ensure that no bothersome pool odors leave the pool envelope.
  • Large skylights and fully opening perimeter doors and transoms were incorporated to achieve an open, airy feeling.
  • The warm colors of the timber beams and ceiling paneling complement the stone pillars and interior walls beautifully, and bring the outdoors in.
