Lower Level Renovation Creates Home Office in McLean, Virginia Home
Homeowner Challenge:
The homeowner wanted a home office in the basement with a separate and private entrance for business visitors. He also wanted to renovate existing spaces for a more appealing transition from the main floor.
The BOWA Solution:
Improved access to the rear yard was created by fabricating and installing a new masonry retaining wall. Structural issues, such as moisture in the basement and a fireplace leak, were corrected simultaneously. Inside, a stairway was reconfigured for entry into a fully-renovated light-filled space instead of a dark hallway. Another hallway and the adjoining rooms were redesigned to accommodate an exercise room. The basement bathrooms were fully renovated and an existing wine bar and billiards room were expanded. The remodeled lower level is a brighter and more usable space for family and friends and also a fully-functioning professional home office with a private entrance.
Project Highlights:
- Antique wood floors used in wine bar, billiard room, television room, and stair areas
- Metal gate for new retaining wall fabricated and installed for professional visitors
- Reclaimed China road slate flooring adds a warm charm to the office space
- Custom built-in wall storage and shelving
