Northwest DC Condominium Renovation

Homeowner Challenge:

After years of living in a large suburban home, the homeowners purchased a condominium unit in an early twentieth-century building in Northwest Washington, D.C.  They wanted to modernize it while restoring the timeless elements of the original construction, maximize every square foot of living space and reconfigure the rooms to improve flow.

The BOWA Solution:

With BOWA’s well-established expertise in historic preservation and condominium renovation, thoughtful consideration and care was given to every aspect of the project.  The challenges of working in an older unit were extensive and included demolition of original plaster and masonry work, rerouting utilities and installing new electrical wiring and a gas line for the fireplace.  Custom panel molding was matched to original existing moldings and original features, such as doors, were preserved or repurposed.  The result transformed the unit into an elegant, fully updated yet classic residence.

Project Highlights:

  • Master suite renovation includes spa-like bath
  • Spacious dressing area and closets added in master suite
  • Custom built cabinetry increased storage throughout the unit and conceals audio-visual equipment in the family room
