Stylish First-Floor Bungalow Renovation in Arlington, VA

Homeowner Challenge:

The homeowners of this classic Arlington, Virginia bungalow, wished to renovate the first floor of their home to be a better reflection of their lifestyle.  They wanted to transform the home into a more open, flowing, brightly lit collection of spaces, and wanted to eliminate an awkward transition from a bathroom near the kitchen.  The goal of this design build remodeling project was not to create more space but to maximize the existing space while creating a cook’s kitchen, a generous home office, and more storage.

The BOWA Solution:

The foyer was reconstructed within the original footprint of the home and includes a beautiful stone-tiled entry that steps up to a modest sitting area. The powder room, which originally opened directly into the kitchen, was rotated so that the doorway opens into a new rear hall. This adjustment improved the flow and aesthetic and added privacy. The true heart of the project is the beautiful chef’s kitchen, in which each aspect was meticulously designed to maximize function, beauty, and storage and fits exactly into the existing kitchen’s footprint. The homeowners are thrilled with the results of their stylish renovation.

Project Highlights:

  • Entryway features coat closet and second storage closet with built-in charging station
  • Honed marble countertops, compact bar, and beverage center
  • Striking center island featuring a rich contrasting finish to the white perimeter cabinets
  • Built-in storage, shelving, and desk to optimize available office space
